This topic is one of the least talked about things on the Internet these days. I’ll admit, I am very guilty of saying #teamnodaysoff and I actually did this in the past if I was behind in my programming. I want to discuss some of the misconceptions about rest days and why we NEED more of them in our lives! #1: A rest day is a rest day - not another workout day: Too many times I see countless athletes on the Gram or other social media outlets positing a hike or swim or an easier workout. THIS IS NOT A REST DAY. Swimming for one hour is a workout even though it does not put you on the floor covered in sweat.  #2 Two days is a perfect number for rest days: There are SO many variables that come into play in determine how many days you should be resting - volume, intensity, etc. Listen to your body. If I feel like crap or very beat up and if I am just not mentally there, I will take a rest day. This is important because you might be doing more harm then good.  Why are rest days so important? #1 Resting is just as important as working out because it is a critical component in the total process required to build strength, and conditioning.  #2 It improves your hormone balance. Ask My wifey Sharan about this because she is smart as shit on this topic (she writes many posts on chronically elevated cortisol which can come from overtraining). #3 Inadequate rest may lead to over-training syndrome which would include: -Decreased performance (Hitting a plateau in your training gains) -Tired and feeling fatigued all the damn time -Poor sleeping patterns (again from cortisol levels here) -Decreased immunity (getting sick as fuck all the time) -Moody as fuck (mix in a rest day) To sum this shit up: If you train a lot and don't take rest days you are NOT doing yourself a favour. Rest up and maybe you you will see a huge improvement! Stop the movement of team no days off take some rest get some results.  More info on my customized remote programming will be launching here soon including free workout resources for SnS squad members! ***If you have questions on whether your specific training/rest day protocol is helping you achieve your goals, leave a comment and I will do my best to help you! --
